From A Scammed Reader

I bought a timeshare(ha ha) from Westgate Park City. The first couple of years were great. I have not been able to book my time since 2005.

I bought the ski season. I tried to book my 2006-2008 week for the season of 2009 today 5-11-2008. Nothing available... again. I just get the complete run around everytime I call spending hours on the phone. I have unused unusable weeks from 2006 to present.

Westgate is a scam!

What legal action can I take?

Email me at eyesea777@gmail.com with any class action lawsuits or other cases pending. I am a single mom who purchased this so that I could take one nice vacation with my child a year. Now I pay for that vacation but we are unable to go anywhere.

This is just wrong!!!!

I never have a problem booking. You just need to understand the reservations system. You can book 11 months in advance. PLAN AHEAD! As the reservation opening date for you trip approaches, call the WESTGATE PARK CITY reservation line (not the national Westgate reservations #) and verify when reservations for your desired date will be opening up. Then start calling the first thing in the morning when they do come available. I purchased in Phase 1 pre-sales and have never had a problem booking.

Also, don't forget, if you want a guaranteed reservation without having to call; you can always pay the $10,000 premium for a fixed week. (Although it sounds like that is not an option that you would be interested in.)

I have been a Westgate owner for 2 years now and I too want out. I called them and they told me that it is like any other deeded property and that I would need to go through a broker to sale it. I contacted the sales lady that pressured me into "upgrading" and she told me that this year they are selling the units like mine for $31K I purchased it for $27K last year but the broker that works on the resale market told me that at best it is worth about $3K. I still owe $26K....to me that is highway robbery and I know that I am not the only one. I am persuing action against these crooks and if anyone else would like to join me please email me at candace.frank91@yahoo.com
I want justice. I thought that I was investing in something that would benifit my family for years to come but I was sceemed into a death trap and I want out. If anyone is interested in timeshares, search the resale market first. There are better deals and more affordable prices. Its just a room for a week, don't pay an arm and a leg for it.

We, too, are victims of Westgate. We purchased one timeshare through another company which was bought out by Westgate. Westgate stated they did not have to abide by the terms of the original contract. Then, foolishly, we accepted one of their discount vacation offers in Gatlinburg and ended up having to go through the sales pitch. I think the sales reps are trained in seductive techniques; they make you think they are going to be your best friend and one rep even claimed they "use Christian" ethics in all their dealings. Once again, after the purchase very little of what we were promised turned out to be accurate. About two years ago, Welk Resorts offered to take our two Westgate timeshares as partial payment for points with them. What Welk Resorts ended up doing was simply to transfer title back to Westgate who now says they don't have to accept the titles back. Of course we are now being harassed by Westgate and a collection agency for maintenance fees. I am in the process of filing complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the States Attorney of several different states, and any consumer protection agency my research turns up. I wish I could find an appropriate class action lawsuit to going but I know that is a long shot.

Next time,we have to see to it that it is not illegal so that will not be a victim of scam.
